Digital Identity on Tool Tips, Reliable Matching in Production

At Delphi Technologies' plant in Izmir ESBAS Free Zone, tool tips used in production were tracked with a Data Matrix-based system to make product-tool matching, tool life, and sharpening processes traceable.

End-to-end traceability in tool-tip flow

Delphi Technologies' plant in Izmir ESBAS Free Zone manufactures for the automotive supplier industry. In this project, tool tips used in production were tracked with a Data Matrix-based system.

The project made product-tool matching, tool life monitoring, and sharpening flow traceable and manageable.

Needs / Problems

Quality risk and visibility loss from wrong tool usage

It was necessary to guarantee that the correct tool tip is used for each product in production. Manual checks increased error risk and reduced process visibility.

Solution

Data Matrix-based unique tool tracking and automatic validation

Each tool tip was marked with a Data Matrix code and uniquely identified. During production, the tool tip was read and matched with the relevant product; tool life and sharpening records were also tracked in the system.
