Delphi Technologies
Rail Assembly RFID-Datamatrix Integration
At Delphi Technologies' plant in Izmir ESBAS Free Zone, RFID- and Datamatrix-based traceability methods were unified into a single flow on the rail assembly line.
Bringing RFID and Datamatrix into one stream
Delphi Technologies manufactures for the automotive supplier industry at its Izmir ESBAS facility. In this project, RFID and Datamatrix tracking methods were integrated into one structure on the rail assembly line.
The objective was to ensure uninterrupted product traceability across all operations under a single serial identity.
Gap risk between two tracking methods
Some operations ran on RFID tags while others ran on Datamatrix codes.
- 01Fragmented TrackingKeeping RFID and Datamatrix flows separate made full-operation continuity difficult.
- 02Traceability GapData discontinuity between methods created a risk of missing product history.
- 03Single Flow RequirementBoth methods had to be merged into one traceability flow based on one serial identity.
Continuous flow from RFID serial to Datamatrix
At marking, the serial number on RFID was converted into Datamatrix and tracking continued with Datamatrix in subsequent operations.
RFID Reading
Serial identity is read from RFID tags on products.
Datamatrix Conversion
At marking, RFID serial is transformed and printed as Datamatrix.
Operation Tracking
Datamatrix reads in following stations sustain the tracking flow.
Unified Product History
RFID- and Datamatrix-based operation data are merged under one serial identity.
RFID, laser marking, code reading, and PLC
RFID Readers
Reads serial identity from RFID tags and starts the digital traceability flow.
Laser Printer
Converts RFID serial identity into Datamatrix and prints it onto product flow.
Datamatrix Readers
Reads Datamatrix codes in subsequent operations for continuity.
PLC Field Management
Combines RFID and Datamatrix read events into a single process flow.
Central data sharing with Oracle
The system is integrated with Oracle; traceability data from RFID and Datamatrix operations is shared using a serial-based identity model.
End-to-end process integrity
Continuous Traceability
Products became continuously traceable from marking through all operations.
Method Convergence
RFID and Datamatrix operation streams were unified under one serial identity.
Process Integrity
Discontinuity between two methods was removed, ensuring full process integrity.
