Individual traceability in the automotive supply industry

Borgwarner's factory in Izmir ESBAS Free Zone produces for the automotive supply industry. In the project implemented at this factory, individual laser marking and traceability of each produced product were aimed.

Automatic execution of marking accuracy and database integration is of great importance for maintaining quality processes.

Needs / Problems

Separate steps and traceability gap risk

Each produced part had to be marked with a unique serial number, ensuring marking accuracy and transmitting the traceability data to the central system. Marking and verification progressing as separate, uncoupled steps carried the risk of incorrect or unreadable codes and gaps in traceability.

Solution

Oracle integrated 3-axis automatic marking cell

A laser marking machine supporting marking and identification processes was developed for Borgwarner. The machine was designed with 3-axis motion capability to adapt to different products. The system was integrated with Oracle to retrieve serial numbers to print. Following marking, code content, grade, and position verifications were automatically performed via camera, with approval data for valid parts sent back to Oracle.

Serial Retrieval

The system pulls the unique serial number to print from the Oracle database in real time.

3-Axis Marking

The laser, moving via the servo axis structure, marks the part at the designated position.

Camera Verification

The camera scans the printed code's content, quality grade, and position.

Oracle Approval

The approval info of verified parts is recorded back to the Oracle database.

Integrations

Bi-directional Data Flow with Oracle ERP

The system operates bi-directionally integrated with Oracle: serial numbers are retrieved from Oracle, and after marking and inspection, the approval data for suitable parts are sent back to Oracle.

Oracle Bi-directional SyncSerial number queries and approval notification steps communicate directly with the Oracle ERP system.
